Connecting Communities: Habitat for Humanity Lesotho

Welcome to Habitat for Humanity Lesotho!

We are proud to spotlight our international tithing partner, Habitat for Humanity Lesotho, which has been a part of our mission since 2013. Over the years, St. Vrain Habitat has contributed over $291,000 to support their incredible work in building sustainable housing and strengthening communities.

Meet Abang Mohlakola: Our International partner

Abang Mohlakola, Global Volunteers and Events Coordinator, Habitat for Humanity Lesotho.

Abang Mohlakola has served as the Global Volunteers and Events Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Lesotho for over a decade, dedicating his career to engaging volunteers and coordinating outreach programs. After joining Habitat right after his studies, Abang discovered that Habitat’s mission extends beyond constructing homes—building strong, connected communities.

In Lesotho, Abang and his team focus on creating affordable, sustainable housing for vulnerable families. Their homes, made from concrete blocks, feature two rooms and are equipped with essential sanitation facilities and energy-efficient stoves, providing safe and dignified living conditions.

Currently, Abang is in Longmont for a month, learning about U.S. volunteer engagement strategies. His goal is to expand local volunteer efforts in Lesotho and prepare for the return of Global Volunteer teams. His presence has already made an impact, helping us connect with more people in our community.

The Impact of Our Partnership

Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Lesotho is vital in helping them expand their reach. As Abang explains, “The funding from St. Vrain helps us extend our reach to families that would otherwise go unserved, allowing us to continue building homes and fostering community well-being.”

Projects and Initiatives

Through our collaboration, we’ve supported several key initiatives aimed at improving housing and sanitation in Lesotho, including:

  • Affordable Housing Development: Providing safe, dignified homes with essential facilities.

  • Sanitation Facilities: Improving access to proper sanitation to enhance community health.

  • Hygiene Promotion: Installing hand-washing stations to promote better hygiene, especially after the pandemic.
