Ramadan
In Islam, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. It begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. Islamic tradition states that it was during Ramadan that God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad the Qurβan, Islamβs holy book, βas a guidance for the people.β This is said to be on the βNight of Powerβ (Laylat al-Qadr), commemorated on one of the last 10 nights of Ramadan (usually the 27th day). For Muslims, Ramadan is a period of introspection, communal prayer in the mosque, and the reading of the Qurβan. God forgives the past sins of those who observe the holy month with fasting, prayer, and faithful intention. Eid al-Fitr is the end of Ramadan and will be celebrated this year on the 9th and 10th of April (2024). People say Eid Muharak (meaning Happy Eid) on this day.
